Horseback Riding

Lessons and Trail Rides

Camp Seafarer offers riding lessons and trail rides for campers ages 9 - 16.

During horseback riding lessons, campers receive instruction in hunter seat equitation using the forward riding system. Lessons are offered for beginner, intermediate and advanced riders.

As campers learn more about riding, they increase their skills and move on to jumping and cantering. Campers also spend time learning about horse and equipment care. Horseback Riding ranks include identifying horse colors and markings, cleaning tack and properly tacking up a horse.

Lessons are scheduled at Camp in one-hour lessons for two and four-week sessions. Advanced riding lessons are two hours long, three times a week, and reserved for four-week campers.

Trail rides are available for beginner through advanced riders. Campers do not need to be in lessons to sign up for trail rides. Camp Seafarer’s horse trails weave through and around our 150 acres. Each ride is guided by staff and can be done in a Western or English seat.

Our horses are leased each summer from St. Andrews University’s Equestrian program in Laurinburg, NC. Campers must supply their own riding equipment, which includes an ASTM-SEI approved helmet, riding boots, and long pants.

Riding lesson registration opens in the spring before Camp starts. Riding lessons and trail rides are an additional fee. All eligible campers will receive an email with instructions, pricing and further details.
